The long-term goal of Dr. Li’s laboratory is to apply the “seek and treat” strategy in the development of targeted imaging/ therapeutic (theranostic) agents that will eventually be translated to the clinic to improve the management of cancer through early tumor detection and individualized therapy. A polymer-drug conjugate (PG-TXL) originated from his laboratory has advanced into clinical phase III trials studies. Dr. Knopp has a long track record of developing and validating new imaging methodologies with a special interest in MRI, PET and safety. His scientific focus has been imaging of angiogenesis and response assessment. His current research focus is on functional and molecular hybrid imaging based assessment as well as validation of imaging methodologies as biomarkers. He has been extensively funded for developing, analyzing and performing imaging-based analysis to diagnose and assess therapies. Drakakis received the B.Sc. degree (1st Class Honours) in Physics and the M.Phil. degree (1st Class Honours) in Electronic Physics and Radioelectrology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Greece, and the Ph.D. degree in analogue IC design from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London, U.K. under the supervision of Dr. Alison Payne. Dr. Anja Nohe is an associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Delaware. She received her PhD in Chemistry in 2000. Dr. Ivan Gout has been working in the field of signal transduction in normal cells and its dysregulation in cancer for more than 20 years. He has a strong research (111 papers in peer-reviewed journals, H-Index 52) and patent (10 world-wide patents) portfolio and run two drug discovery programs aimed at developing small molecule inhibitors, targeting ribosomal S6 kinase and Aurora A kinase.

There are two major areas of interest: a) regulation of cell growth, metabolism and proliferation via the mTOR/S6K pathway; b) the role of Coenzyme A and its derivatives in cellular metabolism and gene expression. The development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for cancer is the ultimate goal of his research, which is pursued through collaboration with academic and industrial partners.

Dr. Jeffrey Zheng has completed his Ph.D in 1994 from Monash University. He is the Professor and Head at Department of Information Security, School of Software, Yunnan University from 2004. Dr. Juan A Rosado is a Lecturer in Physiology in the University of Extremadura (Department of Physiology). He obtained the degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1994 and was awarded with the First National Award for studies of Veterinary Medicine. After his PhD he worked in the Department of Physiology of the University of Cambridge for two years and then returned to the University of Extremadura.

His topic of interest is the field of calcium signalling, specially the mechanisms underlying the activation and regulation of store-operated calcium entry. Dr. Nirmal Shetty is the Director of Shri Krishna Research Centre, Mumbai, India. He graduated from Madras Medical College, India, and studied Acupuncture in Shanghai, China. He is also a Consulting Acupuncturist for over two decades, and is associated with Cumballa Hill Hospital, Inlaks General Hospital and Shanti Avedna Cancer Hospice.

Dr. Fawzy M. Salama has completed his PhD at the age of 30 years from Institute of Botany, Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences – USSR ( 1978). Professor in Plant Ecology since 1989. He was the Head of Botany Department for 6 years. Scientific missions in Sussex University in UK, Tübengin and Bremen Universities in west Germany, Södertön University in Sweden. He has published more than 70 papers in scientific journals and conferences and has been serving as an editorial board member.

Dr. Bozinovski obtained his degrees from University of Zagreb, Croatia. Currently he is professor of Computer Science at South Carolina State University. He teaches courses on Biocomputing/Bioinformatics, Neuroinformatics, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence. His pioneering achievements in computer science and systems biology include 1) solving the delayed reinforcement learning for neural networks (1981), introducing emotion in neural networks learning (1982), proposing relations between robotics and genetic engineering (1985), proposing robotics and flexible manufacturing metaphor for genetics (1987), proposing operating systems and systems software metaphor for genetics (2000), controlling robots using brains signals only (1988), proposing mathematical model that explicitly relates behavior, emotion, and motivation (2002 and 2003), and proposing the concept of Engineered Psychology to replace the concept of Artificial Intelligence (2008). He obtained two million-dollar grants from NSF, one on Neuroscience and Brain-Computer Interface as PI (2005), and on one on Biorobotics and Biofabrication as Co-PI (2009).

Dr. Qingsong Ye, obtained his DDS, MDS,PhD (Ortho.),PhD (Med. Sci.) from China and the Netherlands. He is a Diplomate of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Orthodontics, elected fellow of Royal Society of Medicine, UK, foundation member and coordinator of the orthodontic postgraduate program at James Cook University, AU.

He has published about 40 articles with high impact factor and co-authored a P/G textbook entitled Evidence-based Stomatology. He is also an ARC DECRA Fellow, and founder and leader of the Craniofacial and Orthodontic Research (CORE) group. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of World Federation of Orthodontists (JWFO) and Journal of Investigative and Clinical Dentistry (JICD), President of the Asia Pacific Orthodontic Forum, regular referee for international journals and grants.

Dr. Del Río Hernández obtained his PhD in Chemistry (best thesis award) from the Computense University in Madrid. Following this, he completed a period of postdoctoral training in the US. He worked at Columbia University of New York as a research fellow first, and as a Research Associate, later. He currently leads the Cellular and Molecular Biomechanics group in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London (http://biomechanicalregulation-lab.org). He is a European Research Council fellow and an Editorial Board member of several journals.

We combine nanotechnology, and celular & molecular biology tools with biophysical and bioengineering approaches to investigate how mechanical stimuli regulate the behavior of cells and molecules in physiological conditions and in cancer. Dr. del Río Hernández is a leader in the field of mechanobiology and has published numerous papers in high profile journals such as Science, PNAS, and the Journal of Molecular Biology. His pioneering research in the field of mechanotransduction showed how mechanical forces can unfold protein domains to expose cryptic sites and to trigger downstream signaling pathways. This research has been selected by Thomson Reuters as one of the most influencial in the field of biology and biochemistry.

Cuong Cao is currently a Lecturer in Advanced Micro- and Nanodiagnostics within Institute for Global Food Security, Queen’s University Belfast, UK.

His research interest includes exploration and exploitation of multifunctional micro- and nanostructures, plasmonics-based biosensing platforms (SPR, LSPR, SERS), and integrated point-of-care analyses with a particular emphasis on detecting and identifying pathogens, biomarkers, food and environment toxins.
